BJP slams Karnataka govt over delayed compensation, flood response

Belagavi, Oct 4 (UNI) Karnataka is grappling with a severe agrarian crisis as 10–12 lakh hectares of croplands have been damaged due to unrelenting rains, but the affected farmers are yet to be given compensation. Two farmers have reportedly taken their own lives, which highlights the state government’s slow response, Leader of the Opposition and BJP MLA R Ashoka said here today.
Speaking to reporters, Ashoka criticised the Congress-led administration for failing to adequately address the needs of flood-affected farmers. "It has been two months since the rains began. In Vijayapura district alone, 52,000 hectares of crops have been destroyed. The government has not disbursed any compensation so far. Two farmers have died by suicide because of the injustice you have done," he said, drawing attention to the human toll behind the statistics.
Ashoka further questioned the timing and effectiveness of the government’s relief efforts. “The Congress asks why the BJP visited flood-affected areas only after the floods had subsided. Have the floods actually stopped? Why haven’t you yourself visited these areas? Where are the ministers? This government is making farmers’ lives miserable,” he said.
