JDS eyes MLC upset as rebel MLAs emerge kingmakers in Karnataka poll

Bengaluru, June 10 (UNI) The upcoming biennial elections to seven Karnataka Legislative Council seats have triggered intense political manoeuvring, with expelled and rebel MLAs emerging as decisive factors in a closely watched contest that could test the balance of power between the ruling Congress and the Opposition JD(S)-BJP camp.
While the Congress is expected to secure four seats based on its numerical strength in the Assembly, and the BJP two, the battle has sharpened for the seventh and a potential fifth seat, where arithmetic and cross-voting are now central to political calculations.
The contest took a new turn after the JD(S), led by Janata Dal (Secular), fielded a candidate at the last moment, disrupting expectations of an easy win for the Congress-backed nominee Vinay Karthik Prakash, a close aide of Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
