Anna Bhagya rice exported abroad, BJP seeks SIT probe

Bengaluru, Dec 8 (UNI) The BJP on Monday alleged that rice meant for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families under Karnataka’s flagship Anna Bhagya scheme was illegally exported to foreign countries, including Dubai and Singapore, raising questions about oversight in the state’s public distribution system.
The party demanded the immediate formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged smuggling.
BJP MLC CT Ravi said that rice meant for the poor was being diverted and sold abroad at exorbitant prices. "A 25-kg bag of rice intended for Anna Bhagya beneficiaries was reportedly sold for as much as ₹8,000 in foreign markets," he said in the Legislative Council on the first day of the the winter session.
