Govt earns Rs 50,000 crore, yet neglects farmers: Vijayendra

Belagavi, Nov 4 (UNI) Karnataka BJP President and MLA Vijayendra Yediyurappa today lashed out at the state government for its indifference towards rain-affected farmers, pointing out that while sugarcane and its byproducts generate over Rs 50,000 crore in revenue for the state each year, the Congress government has failed to support the very farmers who sustain this industry.
He reminded that sugar mills in Karnataka crush nearly six million tonnes of cane annually, producing molasses and ethanol that bring substantial tax income to the exchequer.
"Despite this, the government has ignored the distress of farmers devastated by heavy rains across North Karnataka," he charged.

Lightning strike kills four students, injures three in Kerala’s Malappuram

Kozhikode, May 12 (UNI) Four students died after being struck by lightning, while three others were injured, at Mankada in Kerala’s Malappuram district.
The deceased have been identified as Rahees (20), Vahas (18), Siad (18) and Fahad (19), all natives of Vellila.
Three others were injured and are currently undergoing treatment at the Manjeri Medical College Hospital.
