Two killed, four hurt in cracker unit blast, Stalin announces solatium

Chennai, June 11 (UNI) Two workers were killed and four others sustained injuries in a blast at
a private cracker manufacturing unit at Vadagarai village in the southern Virudhunagar district
of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
Reports received here said the deceased included a woman.
The blast occurred at around 0900 hrs due to friction when the workers were handling chemicals.
The deceased were identified as Ms Goundammal (54) and Karuppiah (37), who were charred to death on the spot.
Four others--Ganesan (55), Murugan (40), Ms Mariammal (40) and Ms Pechiammal (38)--who sustained injuries and burns were admitted to Virudhunagar Government Medical College hospital.
Meanwhile, expressing deep anguish and grief over the incident, Chief Minister MK Stalin directed
the hospital authorities to provide the best of treatment to those injured and announced solatium
of Rs four lakh each to the families of the deceased.
He also announced an assistance of Rs on lakh each to those who sustained serious injuries and
Rs 50,000 to those who received simple injuries from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund, an official release said.
