Lokayukta action puts top Karnataka bureaucracy under scanner after Bowring wall tragedy

Bengaluru, May 1 (UNI) A major administrative shakeup is unfolding in Karnataka after the Lokayukta initiated proceedings against senior officials, including Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh and Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, over the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital compound wall collapse that left seven people dead.
The move has widened the scope of accountability beyond frontline civic bodies, bringing top-level bureaucratic and police officials under scrutiny for alleged lapses in planning, supervision and maintenance of public infrastructure.
Lokayukta Justice BS Patil, who is leading the probe, said the case would not be limited to the immediate site of the collapse but would also examine systemic civic failures across Bengaluru and other parts of the state. The inquiry will include commissioners of five city corporations, senior officials of the Medical Education Department, and jurisdictional police officers.
