Guvernor Gehlot gives nod to Greater Bengaluru Bill

Bengaluru, Apr 25 (UNI) Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Friday granted assent to the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill, 2024, clearing the path for a significant overhaul of Bengaluru’s civic administration.
The legislation will replace the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Act, 2020, and enable the restructuring of the BBMP into multiple municipal corporations under a centralised Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).
The new law proposes the creation of up to ten smaller municipal corporations aimed at improving decentralised governance, enhancing infrastructure, and ensuring responsive civic administration.
