Debutant VK of Vijay takes TN poll scene by storm, emerges single largest party, outcome throws up hung Assembly for the first time

Chennai, May 4 (UNI) For the first time the Tamil Nadu election results has thrown up a fractured mandate, resulting in a hung Assembly, as none of the three leading players failing to get a majority on their own with the nascent Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) of actor-politician Vijay takint the poll scene, emerging as the single largest party in its maiden foray, but fell short of a simple majority as counting of votes polled in the April 23 elections was taken up on Monday.
As per the latest trends, Vijay proved all the post poll predictions wrong, cashed in on the anti-incumbency factor, caused major dent in the vote base of both the ruling DMK and the Opposition AIADMK, winning 105 seats and leading in two more--taking its tally to 107 in the 234-member House.
Right from the first round of counting, TVK nosed ahead over the Dravidian majors reducing the much touted four-cornered contest into a one horse race, followed by the DMK which won 74 seats and emerged as the second largest party after trailing in initial rounds and AIADMK finishing a distant third with 53 seats.
