Telangana: Counting for 3 MLC seats in state begins amidst tight security

Hyderabad, Mar 3 (UNI) Counting for the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elections begins here on Monday amidst tight security.
Counting for the two teachers’ constituencies and one graduates’ segment elections held in Telangana state began on Monday.
The polling for the elections was held on February 27 for the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ and also teachers’ segment and the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda teachers’ constituency.
The Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ constituency had recorded 70.4 per cent voter turnout while the Teachers’ constituency registered 91.4 per cent.
In the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ constituency elections, the turnout stood at 93.55 percent.
According to state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C Sudhashan Reddy, the counting of votes in the teachers' constituencies is expected to be completed in about one-and-a-half days, while the graduates’ constituency results may take two to three days due to the preferential voting system.
Though the sorting and bundling of ballot papers started at 0800 hours in the morning, actual counting will start in the afternoon.
The Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ constituency has around 3.55 lakh registered voters with 56 candidates contesting, while in the Teachers’ constituency, 15 candidates are in the fray.
In the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda teachers’ constituency, 19 candidates are trying their luck.
The results for the teachers’ segment are likely to be declared by tomorrow afternoon.
All security arrangements, including police deployment, have been at the counting centres.
The Congress contested only the Graduates’ constituency, fielding V Narender Reddy against BJP’s C Anji Reddy. Incumbent T Jeevan Reddy will step down on March 29, 2025. The BJP fielded candidates for all three seats, while the BRS opted out.
