Muttineni Veeraiah condemns Union Budget 2025-26 for ignoring disabled community

Hyderabad, Feb 1 (UNI) Muttineni Veeraiah, Chairman of the Telangana State Co-operative Corporation for the Handicapped Department, has strongly condemned the Union Budget 2025-26, accusing the Modi government of neglecting India’s disabled population.
Despite a marginal 4 per cent increase in allocation for the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Veeraiah noted that it remains far below the demands of disability rights activists. The total budget allocation for the department stands at a mere 0.025 per cent of the overall budget.
In a media statement here on Saturday, he expressed concern over the continuous reduction in funds for key initiatives, including the Scheme for Implementation of the Persons with Disabilities Act (SIPDA), which supports the Accessible India Campaign. The SIPDA budget has been slashed from Rs 240.39 crore in 2022-23 to Rs 115.10 crore this year.
