Budget Session: Telangana Governor addresses joint session of Legislature

Hyderabad, Mar 12 (UNI) Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma addressed the joint session of the State Assembly and Legislative Council on Wednesday, delivering the Budget speech.
During his 36-minute address, Governor Varma highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the Congress government. The speech was based on a 17-page English document outlining the state's achievements and future plans.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy accompanied the Governor on the dais, alongside Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and Council Chairman Gutta Sukender Reddy.
In his speech, the Governor underscored Telangana's commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development. He praised the state's transformation driven by bold reforms, people-centric governance, and decisive leadership. Citing Mahatma Gandhi, Governor Varma emphasised the government's focus on serving the people and fostering a future grounded in dignity and justice.
Key initiatives highlighted in the speech included a Rs 2 lakh crop loan waiver and enhanced financial assistance under the Rythu Bharosa scheme to support farmers. The Governor also lauded Telangana’s emergence as the top paddy producer in the country and the state's efforts to secure its rightful share of Krishna River water.
On women empowerment, Governor Varma spoke about the transformative Mahalakshmi Scheme and the Indira Mahila Shakti Mission, aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and financial independence for women. He also mentioned initiatives like the Young India Skill University and the Rajiv Gandhi Civils Abhaya Hastham Scheme, which focus on empowering the youth.
The Governor celebrated Telangana's rich cultural identity, noting the adoption of "Jaya Jayahe Telangana Janani Jaya Ketanam" as the official state song and the state's plans to honor literary icons such as Gaddar and Bandi Yadagiri.
Reaffirming the government's commitment to agriculture, education, and social welfare, Governor Varma emphasised the administration's dedication to ensuring holistic progress for Telangana.
