TN: Two die, 14 injured in road accident

Tiruchirapalli (Tamil Nadu) Apr 2 (UNI) Two people, including a sexagenarian woman, were killed and 14 others injured, a few of them grievously, in a head-on collision between an Omni bus and a truck at Paalpannai locality on the Tiruchirapalli-Chennai highway here in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Police said the deceased were identified as Palaniammal (63) and Chandran, the driver of the ill-fated Omni bus.
The accident occurred when the bus carrying around 34 passengers was proceeding to Cumbum in Theni district from Chennai, and the truck was ferrying bricks from Dharmapuri to Pudukkottai.
The injured passengers were admitted to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital.
Senior police officials visited the accident spot and held inquiries.
A search is on to arrest the driver of the truck, who is reportedly absconding.
