MP Amritpal Singh Moves High Court Again, Challenges Third NSA Detention

Chandigarh, Dec 5 (UNI) Punjab MP Amritpal Singh has once again approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, filing a fresh petition challenging the third extension of the National Security Act (NSA) imposed on him. Elected from the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha constituency, Singh argued that the latest detention order is unconstitutional and violates his fundamental rights.
Amritpal Singh, who has been lodged in Dibrugarh Jail since 2023, told the court that the Punjab government extended his detention without presenting any new grounds. His petition states that the cases cited for the NSA extension do not establish his direct involvement. Some incidents mentioned in the government’s dossier reportedly occurred when he was already behind bars, making his participation impossible.
The petition further claims that the witnesses relied upon by the police are unreliable, with statements that contradict one another and lack substantial evidence. According to Singh, the state has failed to justify why the extraordinary measure of preventive detention continues to be applied in his case.
