Rural India to be in focus on union Budget 2026: BJP

Dharamshala, Jan 9 (UNI) Member of Parliament Dr Rajeev Bhardwaj on Friday said the focus of the union Budget has decisively shifted towards rural India, asserting that villages, rather than cities, are now the government’s top priority.
Speaking at a press conference, Dr Bhardwaj noted that nearly 75 per cent of India’s population resides in rural areas, yet past governments allocated roughly 75 per cent of budgetary resources to urban centres and only 25 per cent to villages. “The present government has corrected this imbalance. A significant portion of the budget is now being directed towards rural development,” he said.
Addressing concerns about funding for hill states, he clarified that Himachal Pradesh would continue to benefit from the Centre’s special 90:10 ratio funding pattern. He also criticised the opposition, accusing them of avoiding meaningful parliamentary discussions.
