Himachal Pradesh health dept debunks TB outbreak reports at MGMSC Rampur, confirms of only two cases

Shimla, May 3 (UNI) The National Health Mission (NHM), Himachal Pradesh, on Sunday, clarified that only two students of nursing institute hostel at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial State Medical College (MGMSC), Khaneri in Rampur, have tested positive for tuberculosis (TB), dismissing reports circulating in sections of media and social media claiming a larger outbreak.
According to an official statement issued here, both cases were detected in 2025 and were promptly put on treatment as per Government of India guidelines under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP). One of the students has since fully recovered, while the other is undergoing regular treatment and is under medical supervision.
The NHM stated that claims suggesting 19 students being infected are "incorrect and misleading." It clarified that the first case was detected on July 9, 2025, following which treatment was initiated immediately and 13 close contacts were identified and placed on TB Preventive Treatment (TPT). The second case was reported on December 9, 2025, and three close contacts were similarly placed under preventive therapy.
