Himachal pushes dairy sector, raises milk procurement prices

Shimla, March 21 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh government has stepped up efforts to strengthen the rural economy by giving a major push to dairy activities, while announcing a significant increase in milk procurement prices and special incentives for A2 milk production.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who holds the Finance portfolio, said in the state assembly on Saturday that nearly two lakh people were currently engaged in dairy-related activities across the state. "Milk production has witnessed a sharp rise over the past five years, increasing from around 4 crore litres to nearly 50 crore litres, reflecting growing participation and improved infrastructure in the sector," he said.
In a key decision aimed at benefitting farmers, the procurement price of cow milk has been increased by Rs 10 per litre, from Rs 51 to Rs 61 per litre. Similarly, buffalo milk prices have been raised by Rs 9 per litre, from Rs 61 to Rs 70 per litre.
