Congress promises to bring local bodies, MCs under anti-defection law: Tewari

Chandigarh, May 20 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) candidate from Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat Manish Tewari on Monday said that the local bodies including Municipal Corporations will be brought under the ‘anti-defection law’ to ensure that the “opportunistic migratory birds do not sabotage the popular mandate”.
Replying to a question during an informal interaction with reporters, on his promise to bring local bodies under the anti-defection laws, here Tewari said the local bodies need this law the most as in several instances the opportunistic elected representatives switch sides as there is no deterrent against such subversion and betrayal.
He pointed out the worst example of how the popular mandate was stolen in broad daylight. He said that had it not been for the Supreme Court’s intervention the opportunists would have controlled the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation.
