CBI flags surge in fake "Whatsapp-CBI" scams; citizens urged to exercise caution

Shimla, Dec 3(UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sounded a nationwide alert after an unprecedented rise in cybercriminals impersonating CBI officers through WhatsApp messages, video calls, emails, and spoofed phone numbers.
These organised rackets are intimidating citizens with fabricated allegations and extorting money under the guise of settling non-existent investigations.
According to officials, fraudsters are now deploying advanced tools such as AI-generated summons, forged arrest warrants, doctored ID cards, and deepfake voices and videos to lend credibility to their threats.

Chandigarh, Jan 16 (UNI) A young man who went viral for performing ablution at the sacred 'sarovar' (pond) of Sri Harmandir Sahib has come forward to apologise for his actions. The video, which circulated widely on social media, showed the youth sitting at the edge of the holy tank and rinsing his mouth, with some of the water unintentionally falling back into the sarovar.

Youth stabbed to death near the BJP office in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Jan 15 (UNI) A young man riding a scooter was stabbed to death in broad daylight near the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Sector 37 here on Friday, triggering concern over public safety in a busy administrative area of the city. The attack was carried out by two assailants who arrived on a motorcycle and fled after the assault.
