Man posing as home department Secy cons brothers, defrauds Rs 40 Lakh in Lucknow

Lucknow, Dec 06 (UNI) A man posing as a senior Home Department official at the Uttar Pradesh Secretariat has allegedly defrauded two brothers of Rs 40 lakh by promising government tenders and jobs. The fraud came to light after the victims filed a formal complaint, prompting police to launch an investigation.
According to the complaint, Dehradun resident Itesh Kumar met the accused, identified as Sarvesh, in July 2024 at a rented house in Vinit Khand, Gomtinagar. Sarvesh allegedly claimed to be a Home Department Secretary and moved around in a Swift Dzire, Aura and Scorpio- each displaying the Uttar Pradesh government emblem. He lived on the upper floor of the same building with his wife and children, frequently changing drivers and claiming to be from Gorakhpur.
Sarvesh reportedly lured the victims by promising contracts for government canteens, parking tenders and even government jobs. Trusting his claims, the brothers transferred Rs 40 lakh to various accounts provided by him. To build confidence, Sarvesh initially issued a cheque of Rs 1 lakh, which later proved to be non-viable. Police said the accused had the money deposited into accounts belonging to his acquaintances.
