3700 electricity meters will be available in all divisions within a week: CM

Shimla, Feb 16 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh government would ensure that around 3700 smart meters not available with the state electricity board would be provided to each subdivision within a week. This was stated by the Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who also held the portfolio of power during the question hours on Friday,.
In response to a joint question by MLA Rajendra Rana, Dr. Janak Raj, and Vinod Kumar, the Chief Minister said that the purchase of meters is going on and tenders have been made. He said that electricity meters would reach all the divisions.

The Chief Minister said that, compared to 20 lakh families, there are 29 lakh electricity meters in the state, and most of them have increased since 2021.
He said that the staff shortage would be addressed, and six thousand posts are being filled on the board. In the coming time, recruitment of outsourced and multipurpose workers will also be done. He said that transformers would be made available on priority in places with difficult geographical conditions.
He said that a project worth Rs 3701 crore was sanctioned to Himachal by the Government of India. Under this, smart metres would be installed. He said that its tender process is in the final stage.
Earlier, Rajendra Rana said that there is a shortage of electric poles, service wires, and metres across the state. When will this shortage be fulfilled? He also demanded to remove the shortage of staff on the board.
Vinod Kumar questioned that in his constituency there are neither poles nor meters nor service wires for making new connections. Consumers are also asked for a service wire. Dr. Janak Raj, Dr. Hansraj, and Sukhram Chaudhary also asked supplementary questions.
