UP Congress chief Ajay Rai urges CM Yogi to provide immediate relief and compensation to rain-hit farmers

Lucknow, Nov 01 (UNI) In light of the widespread damage caused by unseasonal rainfall triggered by Cyclone Montha across Uttar Pradesh and other states, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) President Ajay Rai has written a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, expressing deep concern over the losses suffered by farmers.
Rai stated that the unexpected rains have wreaked havoc on standing crops including paddy, potato, oilseeds, and green vegetables, pushing thousands of farmers into financial distress. Reports of farmer deaths have emerged from the state, with one farmer, Chhotelal from Mahoba district, reportedly dying of shock after witnessing the destruction of his crops, and another farmer, Kamlesh Yadav from Jhansi, allegedly taking his own life.
“The unseasonal rainfall has brought untold misery to farmers who were already struggling. Their crops have been destroyed, leaving them devastated,” Rai said in his letter send today. Urging the state government to take immediate and effective steps to provide relief, the UP Congress president demanded a rapid survey by agricultural department teams to accurately assess crop losses, prompt compensation and relief assistance to all affected farmers, ex-gratia payment of Rs 50 lakh each to the families of deceased farmers Chhotelal (Mahoba) and Kamlesh Yadav (Jhansi). Reaffirming the Congress Party’s solidarity with the farming community, Rai emphasized that the government must act swiftly to alleviate the suffering of farmers and ensure they receive timely financial support.
