Punjab: Farmers detention: 800 out of 1400 farmers released so far

Chandigarh, Mar 24 (UNI) Punjab police on Monday said in all 1400 farmers were taken into custody and 800 have already been released.
Punjab police on March 19 detained senior farmer leaders Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarvan Singh Pandher minutes after their meeting with Union as well as Punjab ministers.
Police, on the same day, cleared Khanauri and Shambhu borders, where farmers were agitating since last February.
IG Sukhchain Singh Gill told media that 800 farmers have been released already.
He said that the government has decided that women above 60 years of age and those with health conditions will be released today.
IG said that three FIRs have been filled in connection with the theft
of farmers' belongings.
Police were taking strict action and Patiala SP Jasbir Singh has been appointed
as the nodal officer.
