Jammu, May 2 (UNI) After a night-long rescue operation, the death toll has swollen to three in the bridge collapse incident in Bantalab area here in the city outskirts.
However, one labourer has been rescued alive while the rescue operation has been called off.
"The body of the third labourer buried under the debris has been recovered taking the toll to three," said officials.
On Friday, four labourers were buried under the debris when a portion of an under construction bridge collapsed near Thathar in Bantalab area here.
"The bridge was being repaired by the labourers, which had suffered damages in last year's flash floods," they said.
Two labourers were killed on Friday and one was rescued and the fourth labourer remained buried, whose body was recovered this morning after a night long rescue operation by the Police, Army, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and NDRF team with the help of JCB and other machinery.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir government took cognisance of the incident and suspended two engineers and blacklisted the contractor.
The government has also ordered a time-bound probe.
