Washington/New Delhi, May 10 (UNI) Amid heightened escalation between New Delhi and Islamabad, and with Pakistan moving its troops to forward positions, the US today urged both sides to de-escalate and communicate with each other to “avoid miscalculation".


US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and with Pakistani Deputy PM and FM Ishaq Dar, to convey the message.


In his call to EAM Jaishankar, “Rubio emphasised that both sides need to identify methods to de-escalate and re-establish direct communication to avoid miscalculation.


“He further proposed US support in facilitating productive discussions to avert future disputes,” US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said.


The US Secretary of State conveyed the very same message to Pakistan’s Ishaq Dar.


“Secretary Rubio reiterated that both parties must find ways to de-escalate the current situation and re-establish direct communication to avoid miscalculation. He also offered U.S. assistance in starting constructive talks in order to avoid future conflicts.”


Earlier, Rubio also spoke with the Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir:


“He continued to urge both parties to find ways to deescalate and offered U.S. assistance in starting constructive talks in order to avoid future conflicts,” the spokesperson Tammy Bruce said.
