US President Donald Trump hopes India, Pakistan will stop the escalation, offers to help

Washington/New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he wants to see India and Pakistan stop the escalation, and offered his good offices to help ease the tensions.
Speaking to reporters in the White House, President Trump said:
“It is so terrible. My position is: I get along with both. I know both very well and I want to see them work it out.
“I want to see them stop. Hopefully, they can stop now. They have done tit for tat. So, hopefully they can stop now.
“I know both the countries very well. We have a good relationship with both. And I want to see it stop.
“If I can do anything to help, I will be there."
Earlier on Tuesday evening, reacting to news about India launching the cross-border strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and POK, President Trump had expressed hope that “it ends quickly”.
Commenting on Operation Sindoor launched by the Indian Armed forces, he said:
“It’s a shame, we just heard about it, just as we were walking into the doors of the Oval.
“I just heard about it; I guess we knew that something was going to happen, based on a little bit of the past,” he said, in reference to the Pahalgam terror attack.
“They’ve been fighting for a long time, they’ve been fighting for many, many decades…
“Now I just hope it ends very quickly,” the US President said.
Notably, President Trump was the first world leader to call up Prime Minister Narendra Modi immediately after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, and condemned the terror attack and offered to help.
The US has chosen not to interfere in the relations between India and Pakistan, and let the two sides solve the issues between themselves.
