Sam Pitroda resigns as Indian Overseas Congress Chairman

New Delhi, May 8 (UNI) Amid raging controversy over his 'racist' remarks, Indian Overseas Congress Chairman Sam Pitroda has resigned from the key post.
"Mr. Sam Pitroda has decided to step down as Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress of his own accord. The Congress President has accepted his decision," Congress General Secretary in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh said in a post on 'X'.
Days after Pitroda advocated an inheritance law in the country triggering massive row in the middle of general elections, he in his latest remarks stated that "people on East look like Chinese, people on West look like Arab, people on North look like maybe White and people in South look like Africa".
While Pitroda gave the analogy to highlight the diversity of the country, his remarks sparked huge controversy with BJP leaders cornering the grand old party over the statement and even demanding a response from Rahul Gandhi on the issue.
Finding itself in an uncomfortable situation, the Congress party immediately distanced itself from Sam Pitroda's remarks terming it as unfortunate.
"The analogies given by Sam Pitroda in a recent podcast to illustrate India's diversity are most unfortunate and completely unacceptable. The Indian National Congress rejects these analogies," said senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh in a statement.
