PM Modi ‘protecting’ Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna: Congress

New Delhi, April 29 (UNI) The Indian National Congress on Monday while accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of ‘protecting’ Prajwal Revanna, Hassan MP and the grandson of former PM HD Deve Gowda, who has been allegedly involved in sexual violence against women, has questioned his silence on the issue.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, Chairperson Media & Digital Platforms Supriya Shrinate slammed the Prime Minister for nominating Revanna as the joint candidate despite knowing about his misconduct and also praising and asking for votes in his favour.

She said the BJP MLAs through a letter had informed the Prime Minister and Home Minister about the sexual abuse videos going viral and had requested them not to make him a candidate.

Shrinate said, “In February and March, when Amit Shah visited Mysuru to stitch the alliance with JD(S), he was informed by thousands of workers and leaders, including from Preetham Gowda to AT Ramaswamy, who told him not to make Revanna a candidate in Karnataka as he is known to inflict sexual violence on women, inappropriately behaving with them on camera”.

The Congress leader alleged that the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency candidate had committed heinous crimes against women of all age groups including domestic helps, party workers and MPs.

Shrinate also slammed the Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani and National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma for their silence into the entire incident which had shaken the nation.
She also added that even there was no discussion in the media.

Shrinate said, “It needs to be pointed out that the moment this was taken up by the Commission of Women in Karnataka, after following the due process an SIT was set up and the same day Prajwal absconded and ran way to Europe. We are looking into his extradition and ensure that he faces the might of Indian law”.
