PM Modi praises addition of two new Ramsar sites in Bihar

New Delhi, Sept 27 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today hailed the inclusion of two new Ramsar sites in Bihar—Gokul Jalashay (448 hectares) in Buxar district and Udaipur Jheel (319 hectares) in West Champaran district—as a proud moment for India’s commitment to environmental conservation.
Responding to a post by union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister said, “Wonderful news! Wetlands are vital for sustainable development. Special appreciation to the people of Bihar, who are leading by example through their thoughts and actions in environmental conservation.”
Early in the day, Yadav had shared the development on the X, stating, that the addition raises “the total number of Ramsar Sites in India to 93, covering an area of 1,360,719 hectares, highlighting the country’s steadfast dedication to protecting its rich wetland ecosystems for biodiversity, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods.”
