Winter session Day 3: Opposition protests against new Labour Codes outside Parliament

New Delhi, Dec 3 (UNI) After two days of disruption over the contentious Special Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR), the parliamentary deadlock appeared to ease as the Centre agreed to hold discussions on electoral reforms, including the SIR process. However, the INDIA Bloc parties continued their protest on the third day of the Winter Session, this time against the new Labour Codes, staging demonstrations outside Parliament.
The session began with a meeting of the INDIA Bloc floor leaders at 10 am, followed by a protest against the Labour Codes at Makkar Dawar Parliament at 10:40 am.
Meanwhile, a meeting of floor leaders from various opposition parties is currently underway in the chamber of Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, aimed at formulating a joint parliamentary strategy.

Ensure free admission of poor children in private schools as ‘national mission’: SC

New Delhi, Jan 13 (UNI) The Supreme Court today underscored that ensuring admission of children from weaker and disadvantaged sections in private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act must be treated as a “national mission.”
Interpreting Section 12(1)(c) of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, the Court held that State governments and local authorities are duty-bound to ensure that no eligible child is denied admission in neighbourhood schools.
