New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) India on Thursday dismissed as “completely unwarranted and unsubstantiated imputations” a lawsuit filed by Khalistani extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in a US court claiming that the Modi government was involved in a plot to murder him.
The lawsuit filed on September 17, ahead of PM Modi’s visit to the US, alleges that the Modi government engaged Indian national Nikhil Gupta to hire an assassin in New York to murder him.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri dismissing the suit, said: “As we have said earlier, these are completely unwarranted and unsubstantiated imputations. Now that this particular case has been lodged, it doesn’t change our views about the underlying situation.
“I would only invite your attention to the person behind this particular case, whose antecedents are well known,” referring to Pannun.
“I would also underline the fact that the organization so-called that this person represents is an unlawful organization, has been declared as such under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967; and it has been done so on account of its involvement in anti-national and subversive activities aimed at disrupting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India. And, I don’t want to say anything more than that at this point in time. I think that speaks for itself.”
The lawsuit has been filed against the Government of India, NSA Ajit Doval and Nikhil Gupta.
