Omani FM speaks with EAM Jaishankar, conveys condolences over death of Indian in mosque shooting

Muscat/New Delhi, July 22 (UNI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday evening received a call from the Foreign Minister of Oman Badr Albusaidi, during which the two sides discussed the shooting incident near a Shiite mosque in Muscat on July 15, that left one Indian national dead and three injured.
In a post on X, the EAM said:
“Appreciate the call from FM @badralbusaidi of Oman.
“Discussed the Muscat shooting incident, in which an Indian national lost his life and others were injured.”
The Oman Foreign Ministry in a post on X said that in the telephone call the Omani Foreign Minister “expressed his sincere condolences to the friendly Republic of India on the death of one of its nationals following a shooting incident in the vicinity of a mosque in the Wadi Al Kabir area in Muscat Governorate”.
It said that EAM Jaishankar “also offered his condolences to the Sultanate of Oman over the martyrdom of a security personnel in the incident, expressing his solidarity with the measures taken by the Sultanate of Oman in order to preserve and maintain its security. Stressing the importance of combating these misguided ideas and consolidating the values of peaceful coexistence.”
An Indian national was killed and three other Indians were injured in a mass shooting incident at the Imam Ali Mosque in the Al-Wadi Al-Kabir area in Muscat on July 15 evening that left six people dead and 28 others wounded. The three attackers were also killed by Omani police.
The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the mosque attack when Shiite worshippers were commemorating Ashura.
Four Pakistanis, an Indian and an Omani police officer were among those killed.
On July 17, the Indian Embassy in a press statement said that Ambassador Amit Narang spoke with Tausif Abbad, the son of Basha Jan Ali Hussain, the Indian who was killed in the shooting incident.
The Ambassador assured full support to the family for the repatriation to India of the mortal remains of Hussain, and all other support the family may need.
Embassy officials also visited the three Indians who were injured in the shooting incident and were undergoing treatment in Khoula Hospital in Muscat.
