PM Modi, leaders across spectrum denounce attack on CJI B.R. Gavai

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) The attack on Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai has attracted all-round condemnation, including from PM Modi, political leaders across the spectrum as well as by the Supreme Court lawyers' bodies.
According to eyewitnesses, an advocate, identified as Kishore, attempted to throw an object reported to be a sports shoe towards the CJI during proceedings and shouted, “Sanatan Dharma ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan” (“India will not tolerate disrespect towards Sanatan Dharma”). He was immediately restrained and escorted out by the Supreme Court security.
Though detained by Delhi Police, Kishore was released later after the Supreme Court’s Registrar refused to initiate criminal proceedings. The advocate was reportedly upset over remarks attributed to the CJI during the dismissal of a plea seeking reconstruction of a Lord Vishnu idol at a Khajuraho temple remarks the CJI later clarified were made in the context of Archaeological Survey of India’s jurisdiction, reiterating his respect for all religions.
