Gurugram Court orders Retnec Solutions to pay Rs 55 lakh in damages to Microsoft

Gurugram, Jan 28 (UNI) A commercial court in Gurugram recently ordered Retnec Solutions Pvt Ltd to pay ₹55 lakh in damages to Microsoft after finding the company guilty of trademark infringement and fraudulent call-centre operations using Microsoft’s trademarks, including "HOTMAIL', "OUTLOOK," and "OFFICE 365."
Additional District Judge Mahavir Singh issued a permanent injunction restraining Retnec from misusing Microsoft’s trademarks and directed the destruction of all infringing materials. The Court also awarded Microsoft ₹20.6 lakh in litigation costs.
"A decree for grant of damages along with punitive damages is passed against defendants no. 1 to 3, directing them to pay an amount of ₹50 lakh to the plaintiffs. They shall be jointly and severally liable to pay this amount," the Court ordered. Defendants no. 7 and 8 were directed to pay an additional ₹5 lakh jointly and severally.
