India not a member of ICC: Jaishankar on warrant against Israeli PM

New Delhi, Dec 5 (UNI) Responding to a question on India's position on International Criminal Court (ICC)'s arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday said that India is not a member of ICC.
"When the ICC was constituted, the question of our membership was considered for very good reason; after a great deal of deliberation, India decided not to become a member. So, with regard to any decision passed by the ICC, it is not binding on us, the minister told Rajya Sabha during Question Hour.
"It is not a matter on which we have taken a formal position,” he added.
The Upper House of the Parliament today witnessed brief interruptions when BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi spoke during Zero Hour and raised concerns about the timing of certain reports being published just before the Parliament session.
He cited the example of the Hindenburg report, the BBC documentary The Modi Question, and the recent indictment of Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani by the US Justice Department.
As Trivedi continued to speak, several opposition members protested, claiming that the BJP MP had been speaking even when his time was up.
The uproar led to the adjournment of the House till 12 noon. Following this, the House continued its proceedings.
