Malaysian PM rakes up Kashmir issue during meeting with PM Modi at Rio BRICS Summit

Rio de Janeiro/New Delhi, July 7 (UNI) Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim raked up the Kashmir issue during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the Rio BRICS Summit, and called for a peaceful resolution of “international issues such as Palestine and Jammu-Kashmir”.
After meeting PM Modi, on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, the Malaysian PM in a long post on X, said he had a “concise yet meaningful meeting with Indian Prime Minister, @narendramodi”.
He said the two sides explored “the immense potential to expand Malaysia and India’s strategic cooperation in various fields, including trade, investment, digital technology, and defense”.
The Malaysian PM also welcomed “the interest of Indian companies in investing in Malaysia’s future-oriented sectors such as the digital economy, artificial intelligence (AI), renewable energy, and the aerospace industry”.
He also evinced interest in the setting up of an IIT campus in Malaysia.
“We are also committed to further strengthening people-to-people ties through cooperation in culture, tourism, and education, including the proposal to establish an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in Malaysia.
On raking up Kashmir, he posted in the same tweet;
“Both sides emphasized the importance of ensuring regional peace and stability, while voicing support for fair and peaceful resolutions to international issues such as Palestine and Jammu-Kashmir.”
“Malaysia welcomes efforts to strengthen ASEAN-India relations ahead of the ASEAN-India Summit this October, in line with the spirit of mutually beneficial cooperation.
“May the close ties between Malaysia and India continue to flourish for the shared benefit and prosperity of the people of both nations.”
PM Modi had posted on the meeting that it was a good meeting, and that Malaysia is vital for India, having a key place in our Vision MAHASAGAR and Act East Policy.
“We reviewed the ground covered in our bilateral relations, including the progress made since PM Ibrahim’s visit to India last year. Futuristic sectors like IT, renewable energy and infrastructure are those where bilateral ties are growing strongly. Also discussed how to improve investment and trade relations between our nations,” PM Modi said.
