Delhi poll concludes peacefully, records 57.89 pc voter turnout

New Delhi, Feb 5 (UNI) Voting for the 70-member Delhi assembly, that witnessed a triangular contest, concluded peacefully, with the turnout recorded at around 57.89 percent on Wednesday.
Thanking the people of Delhi for participating in the election, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said the polling process was "smooth, free and fair".
As per the ECI's Voter Turnout App, the North East district recorded the highest voter turnout of 63.83 percent, while New Delhi registered 54.72 percent.
Voter turnout for the other districts are -- Central 55.74%, East: 60.11%, North: 57.48%, North West 58.05%, Shadara 61.35% and South 55.72%.
Similarly among the assembly constituencies, Mustafabad witnessed a highest voter turnout of 66.68 percent and Karol Bagh had a lowest polling figure of 47.40 percent.
Meanwhile, multiple exit polls have predicted BJP winning the tightly-contested Delhi assembly election comfortably while ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is seen losing the electoral battle.
As the voting came to an end, fate of 699 candidates including Chief Minister Aatishi, her predecessor and Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, BJP leaders Parvesh Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri and prominent Congress names like Sandeep Dikshit and Alka Lamba lay sealed in the EVM.
Earlier, amidst great enthusiasm and a festive spirit, polling began at 7 a.m. to elect a new government for the crucial Union Territory that comprises the country's national capital.
Prominent personalities including Union Ministers S Jaishankar and Hardeep Singh Puri, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, AAP stalwarts Kejrwal, Aatishi, Sisodia, BJP's Manoj Tiwari, Virendra Sachdeva, Praveen Khandelwal expressed their democratic choice.
The counting of votes will take place on Saturday i.e February 8. UNI RBE SSP
