Delhi continues to breathe ‘Very Poor’ air as AQI crosses 300 in several localities

New Delhi, Feb 5 (UNI) Despite marginal relief from dense fog conditions, Delhi’s air quality continued to remain in the “very poor” category across most parts of the national capital on Thursday morning, primarily due to elevated levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5), according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
Among the major pollution hotspots, Vivek Vihar recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 339, while Anand Vihar reported 324, followed by Siri Fort at 309. Wazirpur registered an AQI of 315, and Dwarka Sector-8 recorded 318.
Ashok Vihar also remained severely polluted with an AQI of 311, while Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium and Sonia Vihar both logged AQI levels of 298 at around 9 am, indicating continued unhealthy air conditions.
Although visibility improved following dissipation of fog in the early hours, air pollution persisted as a major concern, with PM2.5 concentrations remaining significantly above permissible limits.
Health experts advise residents, especially children, the elderly, and those with respiratory ailments, to limit outdoor activities and use protective masks where possible.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as fluctuating meteorological conditions influence pollution dispersion across the city.
