Congress questions Centre after India backs out of hosting COP-2033

New Delhi, Apr 9 (UNI) The Congress on Thursday criticized the Centre following reports that India will no longer host the 2033 United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP), calling the move a reflection of the government's "true commitment" to global climate obligations.
In a statement, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said the decision marked a sharp departure from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement on December 1, 2023, in Dubai, where he had declared that India would host the prestigious global climate summit in late 2033.
"Clearly the intention was to milk the global gathering for whatever it is worth in the months before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, like Mr. Modi did by having the G20 Summit in New Delhi a few months before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls," Ramesh alleged.
