CCEA clears Rs 14,106 cr Kalai-II Hydro Project to boost power supply in Arunachal

New Delhi, Apr 8 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved an investment of Rs 14,105.83 crore for the construction of the 1,200 MW Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh, marking a significant step towards strengthening power infrastructure in the Northeast.
Announcing the decision, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the project will be developed on the Lohit river in Anjaw district and is expected to be completed within 78 months. “The project will enhance power availability in the state while contributing to peak demand management and national grid stability,” he said while briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
With an installed capacity of 1,200 MW, comprising six units of 190 MW and one unit of 60 MW, the project is expected to generate around 4,852.95 million units of electricity annually. Officials noted that as the first hydroelectric project in the Lohit basin, it will play a crucial role in strengthening the power supply position in Arunachal Pradesh and supporting grid balancing at the national level.
