Beyoncé secures First Album of the Year Award at Grammys 2025

Los Angeles, Feb 3 (UNI) In a moment of long-awaited recognition, Beyoncé secured her first-ever Album of the Year win at the 2025 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles for her genre-defying country album, Cowboy Carter.
The historic triumph comes after four previous nominations in the category for "I Am…Sasha Fierce", "Beyoncé" "Lemonade", and "Renaissance".
Despite the 15-year-long wait, Beyoncé delivered a poised yet heartfelt acceptance speech, gracing the stage alongside her Blue Ivy Carter to a standing ovation from the audience. “It's been many, many years,” she said. “I just want to thank the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, all of the hard work.”
She dedicated the win to Linda Martell, a trailblazing yet often overlooked figure in country music history. Martell was the first Black female solo artist to perform at the Grand Ole Opry, and her voice is featured on two tracks from Cowboy Carter. “I hope we just keep pushing forward opening doors,” she affirmed, according to a report by Vanity Fair.
Entering the night, Beyoncé held the distinction of being the most nominated artist of the year, with 11 nominations, as well as the most-awarded artist in Grammy history, boasting an unprecedented 32 wins. Her husband, Jay-Z, had previously pointed out the glaring inconsistency in her awards record while accepting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at the 2024 Grammys.
“I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone, and never won album of the year,” he said, referring to his wife in the audience. “So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that. The most Grammys, never won album of the year. That doesn’t work.”
Beyoncé herself addressed her repeated snubs in the "Cowboy Carter" track "Sweet Honey Buckiin", referencing her 2010 loss to Taylor Swift's "Fearless" with a sharp, unbothered lyric, “AOTY, I ain’t win (That’s cool) / I ain’t stuntin’ ’bout them (Woo-woo) / Take that shit on the chin / Come back and fuck up the pen (Yeah),” she sings.
Ironically, it was this very album with those unapologetically self-assured lyrics that finally secured her the industry's most prestigious honour.
Beyoncé also scooped up the best country album award, and another duo performance award she shares with Miley Cyrus. She is the first Black woman to win the Grammy for country album of the year. UNI XC SSP
