‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ trailer drops: HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel to premiere January 18

Washington, Oct 10 (UNI) “It’s time to return to the Seven Kingdoms,” as HBO has officially unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming Game of Thrones prequel, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.”
The six-episode half-hour series is set to debut on January 18, taking fans a century back in Westeros history.
Based on George RR Martin’s beloved novellas “Tales of Dunk and Egg,” the series follows the journey of two unlikely companions: Ser Duncan the Tall, and brave but inexperienced hedge knight, and his squire Egg, a boy with a secret identity, he’s actually Prince Aegon Targaryen, an ancestor of the royal line.
Variety notes that this Aegon is unrelated to the characters of the same name featured in HBO’s other prequel series, House of the Dragon.
The official storyline, as quoted by Variety, sets the tone, “A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros, a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg.
"Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
Peter Claffey stars as Ser Duncan, while Dexter Sol Ansell plays Egg. The cast also includes Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Daniel Ings, Tanzyn Crawford, Sam Spruell, Ross Anderson, Edward Ashley, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Daniel Monks, Shaun Thomas, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Steve Wall, and Danny Webb.
Variety confirms that George RR Martin and Ira Parker (House of the Dragon) serve as writers and executive producers. Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw also executive produce. Adina Smith (Lessons in Chemistry, Hanna) will direct the first three episodes, while Owen Harris will helm the final three.
With a mix of new characters, familiar lore, and the rich history of Westeros, Variety teases that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is shaping up to be “a compelling return to the world of Westeros, this time through the eyes of two humble yet heroic wanderers.”
