Bhitarkanika Park officials rescue 8.2 foot Crocodile from village pond

Kendrapara, Apr 12 (UNI) Forest personnel of the Rajnagar Forest Range under Bhitarkanika National Park rescued an 8.2-foot-long female estuarine crocodile from a pond in Pentha village, in Rajnagar block of Kendrapara district.
A team led by Rajnagar Ranger Chitta Ranjan Behera successfully rescued the saltwater crocodile and later released it into the crocodile-infested Bausagada River within Bhitarkanika National Park.
The operation followed a memorandum submitted by members of the Nilakantheswar Self-Help Group (SHG) to the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Rajnagar Mangrove Forest and Wildlife Division. The SHG members alleged that the crocodile had entered their fish farming pond several months ago and had been consuming the fish.
