Bengal: Suvendu claims "absconding" Shahjahan Sheikh in "safe custody of state police"

Kolkata, Feb 28 (UNI) West Bengal Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday claimed that absconding Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Sheikh was in the safe custody of the state police since last midnight.
In a post on X, Adhikari claimed "the TMC leader was taken away from the Bermajur - II Gram Panchayat area, after he managed to negotiate a deal with the Mamata (Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee) Police, through influential mediators, that he would be taken care of properly while in Police and Judicial Custody,"
Sahjahan Sheikh has been evading arrest since January 5 after he allegedly orchestrated attacks by his followers on Enforcement Directorate (ED ) officials and CRPF personnel at Sandeshkhali. The central agencies went in search of TMC leader's residence (Sarberia) in relation to alleged ration (PDS) scam. The Central officials abandoned the search operation after being beaten by a large mob and ran for their lives.
