Govt to spend Rs 11,000 cr on flood protection in Bihar: PM

Madhubani, Apr 24 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced the government would spend Rs 11,000 crore for flood protection projects in Bihar.
Addressing a function organised to mark launching various projects and schemes worth Rs 13,500 crores, the PM said north Bihar was facing the menace of floods almost every year. His government would spend Rs 11,000 crore for flood protection projects in the state to provide relief to the people from floods that cause widespread damage every year, he added.
The Prime Minister said his government was committed to giving due representation to women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies. A provision has already been made for 33 per cent representation to women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies, which would be implemented after completion of due process, he added.
Modi said that Bihar was the first state to provide 50 per cent reservation to women in panchayati raj and local bodies. "It was a great step towards women empowerment, taken by NDA government headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Bihar," he added.
The Prime Minister said that 5.5 lakh common service centres had been opened in the country providing services under different categories of the people. It had greatly helped them in getting certificates related to birth, death and land-related papers, he added.
Modi said that Rs 2 lakh crore had been given to Panchayats across the country in last ten years. Similarly, 30,000 panchayat bhawans had been constructed during the same period, he added.
The Prime Minister said that 4 crore pucca houses were constructed in the country in the last ten years and out of them, 57 lakhs poor families have benefited in Bihar itself. The number of medical colleges too have doubled during the tenure of his government, he added.
"With the launching of projects and schemes worth Rs 13,500 crore relating to the railways, panchayats and LPG bottling plant, a large number of people of Bihar would get benefits," Modi said, adding adding that his government was committed to improve infrastructural facilities in Bihar.
