Presence of Syama Prasad's associate at Brigade ceremony triggers emotive scenes, Modi touches his feet

Kolkata, May 9 (UNI) In an emotional moment during the swearing-in ceremony of West Bengal's first BJP government on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi bowed to touch the feet of 97-year-old veteran nationalist leader Makhanlal Sarkar, a longtime associate of Syama Prasad Mookerjee and one of the early organisers of the BJP in north Bengal.
The occasion marked the oath-taking ceremony of Suvendu Adhikari as the state's first BJP chief minister. Senior BJP leaders, union ministers and chief ministers from several NDA-ruled states, as well as thousands of party supporters, attended the event at the iconic Brigade Parade ground here.
As Sarkar walked onto the stage as a special invitee, senior BJP leaders welcomed him warmly. Modi personally draped him with a shawl and ceremonial stole before bending down to touch his feet as a mark of respect. Visibly moved by the gesture, the elderly leader embraced the Prime Minister amid loud cheers from the audience.
