Manipur CM congratulates Congress winners

Imphal, June 5 (UNI) Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh congratulated Congress candidates Angomcha Bimol Akoijam and Alfred Kanngam S Arthur for their respective victories at Inner and Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituencies in the 18th Lok Sabha elections.
He posted on a social media platform that "the public has given its mandate, and what truly matters is that we all aspire for the welfare of all the indigenous people of the state.
"Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP government will continue to work with the elected representatives towards the growth and development of all sections in the state".
He also said, "We remain firm in our commitment to work towards serving the masses and building a better Manipur for future generations."
In the results declared on Tuesday, Congress wrested both the seats of Lok Sabha in the state from the ruling BJP and NPF.
Prof Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, a JNU professor in New Delhi, defeated Education Minister Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh of the BJP by a margin of 10,981 votes, while in Outer Manipur, former MLA Alfred Kanngam S Arthur defeated Kachui Timothy Zimik of the Naga Peoples Front by a margin of 85,418 votes.
The Inner Manipur seat was held by Dr RK Ranjan of the BJP, Union Minister, while the outer seat was held by Pfoze of the NPF. The BJP did not field any candidates in outer Manipur but supported the NPF.
Congratulatory messages from all over have been pouring in for the winners.
