Jharkhand issues directive on court order compliance

Ranchi, April 14 (UNI) The Jharkhand government has directed all departments to ensure strict and timely compliance of court orders, following recent observations by the Supreme Court of India.
A communication issued by the state law department said non-compliance of court orders, even during appeal or review, would not be accepted and may invite contempt proceedings.
It said departments must approach the appropriate court in advance if an order is impractical, instead of delaying compliance.
The directive noted that even third parties aware of a court order could be held liable for contempt if they assist in its violation.
It further clarified that contempt courts would only examine whether an order has been complied with, and cannot revisit the merits of the original judgement.
The communication said administrative or logistical difficulties would not be considered valid grounds for non-compliance, and officials must act promptly upon becoming aware of court directions.
It also warned against misuse of delay tactics such as filing late appeals to stall contempt proceedings.
The directive follows Supreme Court observations in contempt cases earlier this year stressing strict adherence to judicial orders.
