Bhubaneswar, Jan 26 (UNI) For the first time the National Flag was unfurled on ten uninhabited islands of Coastal Odisha on Republic Day on Sunday.
The Tricolour was unfurled at Subarna Syamsoolam in Balasore district, Naya Tapu Syamsoolam, Udabali, Kanika, Long Wheeler, Short Island, Small Wheeler in Bhadrak district, and Boitarkud, Jatadhari Tanda and Barkud islands in Jagatsinghpur district.
Police sources here said the Maritime Police Station of Odisha has surveyed these islands and unfurled the National Flag.
On the occasion of the All India Security Director General Conference in Odisha in November 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed the National Flag to be unfurled on the uninhabited islands in coastal states on or before Republic Day.
The idea conceived by the Prime Minister is to showcase India's pride and sovereignty in uninhabited islands.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi took immediate steps and directed DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania to implement this.
The Marine Police identified the islands and the National flag was unfurled on these islands on Republic Day. UNI BD SSP
