Mizoram CM urges 16th Finance Commission for special financial assistance

Aizawl, Feb 24 (UNI) Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Monday underscored the need for special financial support from the 16th Finance Commission, citing the state’s challenging terrain, frequent natural calamities, and economic limitations.
The Chief Minister made this appeal during a high-level meeting at the Secretariat Conference Hall in Aizawl, where he and other senior state officials engaged with the visiting Finance Commission delegation. The session, chaired by Finance Commissioner Vanlaldina Fanai, was attended by Ministers, Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena, and heads of various government departments.
Lalduhoma stressed that Mizoram’s financial roadmap must take into account its unique geographical and economic constraints. He noted that over 84 perent of the state is covered by forests, making land availability scarce, while its predominantly tribal population depends on traditional livelihoods. Despite a high literacy rate, Mizoram faces challenges such as limited industrial opportunities, high transportation costs, and an overall lack of infrastructure.
