Mizoram launches Taekwondo Self-Defence Training for tribal schoolgirls

Aizawl, Apr 30 (UNI) In a step aimed at strengthening safety, confidence and overall development among adolescent girls, a state-level self-defence training programme in taekwondo for students of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) was launched today in Aizawl.
The inaugural function was held at the Conference Hall of the Planning & Programme Implementation Department and marked the formal rollout of the initiative across multiple EMRS institutions in Mizoram. The programme is being jointly organised by the Social Welfare, Women & Child Development Department, the Planning & Programme Implementation Department under the EMRS Society, and the Mizoram Amateur Taekwondo Association (MATA).
Addressing the gathering, Zoramthangi Chhangte, Director of the Women & Child Development Department, highlighted the significance of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme in promoting the welfare of the girl child. She said the initiative places strong emphasis on equipping girls with self-defence skills, noting that such training contributes not only to physical fitness but also to mental well-being and self-confidence.
